ASHER IYER STORY

Born and raised in the small town of Whangārei, New Zealand, Asher Iyer grew up surrounded by nature and kiwi culture. Asher discovered his passion for music at just 11 years old. Writing lyrics became his way of coping with the bullying he faced at school — a creative escape that soon grew into a deep love for storytelling through music.

Before music (2016-2019) Asher Iyer was a Karate Athlete. Claiming numerous titles at regionals and club competitions. As well as achieving a second national title. Asher was also selected to represent New Zealand overseas in Malaysia at the world championships however due to the cost of the trip Asher couldn't compete.

Since young, Asher had an entrepreneurial mindset. He wanted to build something from nothing. By selling candy and snacks at school, Asher saved up enough money to buy a beginner studio setup, he began producing better music and learning more advanced production software. By 13, Asher started releasing his own songs on streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, while also sharing his journey on TikTok and Instagram. That same year, he performed live for the first time at his school’s Arts Soirée, debuting his original song “Live A Life.” The performance made a name for him among his peers and allowed him to take home several highly exclusive music awards at prize giving. This marked the beginning of his career as a performer.

When Asher turned 14, he moved from New Zealand to Brisbane, Australia, where he continued to refine his sound. He started self teaching himself how to use FL studio and how to create his own sound which he made by blending rap, pop, and R&B. He created songs that connect with people on a real level. Despite criticism and setbacks, Asher refused to give up, using every challenge as motivation to grow stronger.

At 15, Asher set his sights on starting his own recording studio and audio business. He began working weekends at KFC, saving every dollar for six months to buy his studio equipment. With determination (and a bit of negotiation), he convinced his parents to let him turn a spare room into a home studio, agreeing to give them 20% of his profits in return.

Asher also started expanding his artistry, by taking part in his school musical. While Asher had never been a part of a musical before he still managed to get casted as a lead role in the show (Seussical The Musical) as a ‘Wickersham’. This broadened his skills as an artist while also creating friendships and memories.

At 16, Asher opened his own studio, AIR Audio, which quickly gained attention from local Brisbane artists — particularly within the rap scene. Asher’s next goal was to expand AIR Audio into the pop and R&B world, continuing to push boundaries and create music that speaks to the heart.
